Amsterdam, January 11, 2019 - Eight of the world’s largest stakeholders in content translation increase their contributions to TAUS and join forces to improve conditions in the global translation industry. The eight companies - Dell, eBay, Google, Lionbridge, Microsoft, Oracle, RWS Moravia, Welocalize - will each have delegates on the TAUS Partner Foundation Board. This new board provides guidance to TAUS in fulfilling its mission to help all stakeholders in the global language industries to measure and improve their translation production.

The TAUS program for the coming years was laid out in a manifesto published on October 30, 2018 under the title Fixing the Translation Ecosystem. The program is broken down in three main action lines: fixing the knowledge gap, fixing the operational gap and fixing the data gap.

“The increased funding and endorsement from the eight TAUS Partner members will help us to accelerate”, says Jaap van der Meer, director of TAUS. “To fix the knowledge gap we will develop more courses on the TAUS eLearning platform and get more professionals prepared for the shifts in skills and requirements in the age of AI. To fix the operational gap we will drive further adoption of best practices and standard metrics such as DQF. To fix the data gap we will accelerate the development of a secure and open marketplace for language data built out of the current TAUS Data Cloud.”

The TAUS Partner Foundation Board will meet four times per year. The Board will give direction to the agendas of all TAUS Events and User Groups and guidance on priorities of the TAUS development roadmap. The program and reports of the meetings will be shared with all TAUS members on the TAUS website. TAUS members and other stakeholders can participate in TAUS User Groups and Implementation Committees.

TAUS invites all members and non-members with a vested interest in the program to join the TAUS Partner Foundation Board at the CEO Forum on June 25-26 in Salt Lake City to discuss how we can effectively work together to fix the translation ecosystem.

ABOUT TAUS

TAUS, the language data network, is an independent and neutral industry organization. We develop communities through a program of events and online user groups and by sharing knowledge, metrics, and data that help all stakeholders in the translation industry develop a better service. We provide data services to buyers and providers of language and translation services.

The shared knowledge and data help TAUS members decide on effective localization strategies. The metrics support more efficient processes and the normalization of quality evaluation. The data lead to improved translation automation.

TAUS develops APIs that give members access to services like DQF, the Quality Dashboard, and the TAUS Data Market through their own translation platforms and tools. TAUS metrics and data are already built into most of the major translation technologies.
